They say change is the only constant and whether we like it or not, it’s the truth! While we might be scared of change, some changes are necessary and can completely revolutionize the way we live! I think one such prominent change that we constantly see around us is the evolution of telecommunication. So, let’s revisit the different modes of communication and how they have evolved and changed over the period of time –
• PHONES
Once upon a time, we were tied down by the landline’s wire, being stuck talking at one place but since then a lot has changed- starting from wired telephones with rotary dials to telephones with buttons to cordless telephones and the feature mobile phones with which we could ‘walk and talk’, really “What an idea, sirji" to finally, the latest, touch-screen, smart phones with all the possible features present in it, and its not over yet for still every year, a new model is released with yet another unimaginable feature! Now, those rotary dial telephones just act like an antique show- piece at some of our homes.
• RADIO
Radios are hardly seen around nowadays, the only form of radio we know is that present in our cars or the ones that can be seen in some ‘Chai ki Tapri' with a cricket match commentary going on. Long gone are those days when people used to sit by the radio the whole day listening to daily set programmes, news and current hits of Kishore Kumar on ‘All India Radio’ or ‘Akashvani’, for people have got televisions, smart phones and other devices to cater to those needs now, but still the time of the radio industry is not completely over yet, for we still listen to RJs and music while commuting to our offices or other places, plus there are so many people out there that miss those old, golden days with an actual radio, that the “Carvaan" was introduced which is such a craze these days.
•TELEVISION
From the big- big “dabba" T.V.’s to the flattest, thinnest LED TVs to Curved display for enhanced experience, there is indeed no limit to the innovation being made in the audio and visual segment. Though binge watching shows on the TV is making us couch potatoes, we surely are very thankful to Mr. Philo Taylor Farnsworth for making this great invention to begin with, fulfilling our want of entertainment which has now become such a huge part of our lives that we cannot even imagine a day without it!
I would like to end this on a small note that evolution is a never-ending process and everything will change with time, soon the technology and means of communication that we are using today will be a talk of the history and some new technique which is unimaginable right now will be the new normal but that’s the beauty of the world we live in, isn’t it? For there will always be scope for something more better and wonderful!
