I was forced to watch this movie last night and I have never left a movie feeling disturbed and furious ever. It was so disturbing. I cannot even. I am appalled that people are genuinely liking this movie.
I know we were supposed to hate but eventually empathize with this anti-hero and honestly, kudos to Shahid Kapoor for that performance. His portrayal of this character was excellent in my opinion. But the story, the movie as a whole, the dialogues and worst of all people appreciating his actions is plain disturbing.
Why on earth would any woman, any sane woman want to end up with this man is beyond my understanding. This was a toxic relationship and I wouldn't glorify the woman either, she was equally responsible for the toxicity in that relationship. She was equally entitled, toxic and she enabled his aggression. And I am sorry what form of love is this? Stalking, claiming a woman like property and beating up people in the name of love is not okay no matter what. Filmmaking wise, great effort. But the misogyny is so on the nose you cannot ignore it even if you want to.
And I'm sure, 90% will say that it is just a movie, but guys, this is what a large part of our population that is easily influenced by movies will assume is acceptable behavior in real life. That is not okay and that is scary for me as a woman.
If I saw this movie about 15 years ago, I know this for a fact I would've loved it. Not anymore. This was not some beautiful love story where 'love conquers all' is the moral, it was out and out toxic. This is Stockholm Syndrome gone wrong at best.
