Hostages is an Indian crime thriller web series directed by Sudhir Mishra. It is an attempted remake of an Israeli series of the same name “Hostages”, it revolves around the life of a surgeon who is ordered to assassinate the chief minister, in exchange for the survival of her family.
The cast includes stand-out actor Ronit Roy, Tisca Chopra, Parvin Dabas and Dalip Tahil.
Sitting and watching out the said thriller wasn’t easy for many. It has a good tempo and background music to take your mind away but this isn’t enough for a good web series. The length of the show and mediocre production design spoil the pace of the series and obvious paucity of expression from the newcomer kids. It should have been at least 5–6 episodes at the maximum.
The story revolves around a renowned surgeon Dr Mira Anand which is played by Tisca Chopra. Dr Mira was set to operate the Chief Minister the other night. The night before the CM’s operation was set to be carried out Mira’s family is held hostage by a group of gunmen who want the Dr to kill the Chief Minister or else her family would face death.
Dr Mira’s family seems normal but isn’t so. Her son is a spoilt brat who does unethical hacking for impressing a girl. Her daughter is dealing with unwanted pregnancy and her husband who is a school principal is under huge debts.
Ronit Roy plays SP Prithvi Singh, who retires from his duties soon after handling a teen before his duty ends. After retiring the first job he does is taking Mira and her family as hostage. The reason for his decisions and actions are disclosed towards the end of the season.
In some opinions given out there, it's the most underrated and underappreciated Indian series. This series is a delight for suspense lovers. Another one of those masterpieces that did not get an outstanding rating for small pity details. Some critics say it has more thrill and suspense than Sacred Games.
The series concludes with few unanswered questions, which might be answered in the second season.
