Views on the movie Kabir Singh and the controversy

The movie Kabir Singh has been breaking the box office, earning more than 100 crores. And one of the reasons I went to watch, was due to the controversies. So when I went to watch it I was as neutral as possible. But eventually the movie only kept getting worse and I just couldn't stop wondering that it's 2019 and yet Bollywood continues to produce such movies. Back in the 90s Bollywood had the most misogynistic movies possible, for example, I was randomly watching some old movie while shuffling through channels and there was a scene where Sunny Deol asks the heroine to pay some need towards her dupatta which slips by mistake saying "Tumhe tumhari izzat bachani chahiye". Coming back to Kabir Singh. It's the most horrible movie I've watched. Kabir who is the protagonist is a medical student with severe anger issues. Who likes a college Junior and literally claims her as if his bottle of whiskey. They fall in love and eventually decide to confess their love to her family but her dad has already caught them kissing and is very mad. Eventually they break up and she gets married to someone else. Now this is where things get absolutely insane. After breaking up with his girlfriend, he starts having drugs, he turns into an an alcoholic and well the greatest twist is that his family is aware about it, all of it and doesn't ever stumble upon taking him to a psychiatrist or a rehab. Also, he is a doctor. So this addicted doctor is performing surgeries. And ironically in a country where doctors are beaten for just doing their job, this is great representation. The unnecessary drama continues. Eventually one day while passing by a garden he comes across Preeti (the girl he broke up with). Who is now pregnant. She mentions how she broke the marriage because she was pregnant with his child and was living alone all this time because her parents weren't ready to accept her. Also did I forget to mention, the movie starts with him threatening a woman to have sex with him while the audience is LAUGHING. Isn't this supporting rape culture? Come on, yeh toh aaj Kal hota rehta hai, they're just portraying the truth :) To add on to it, there is a scene where he slaps her as well. It's very hurtful to see influencing actors like Shahid coming forward to enact in such movies. Every Bollywood director, story writer and actor needs to realize that movies are a source of influencing the masses. People in India worship Bollywood actors and get influenced. And all those saying that it's just a movie! It's not. People follow these movies, the actors and tend to believe it's okay to do something like that. And worse was watching the director justify them, the interview clearly shows he believes it to be alright. We need to clearly ban such movies.
