Views on Kabir Singh and the controversy!

In these times of aggressive 'Outrage Culture' where there seems to be an inviolable long list of do’s and don'ts, how politically correct should fictional characters be?
Kabir Singh recently released on 21st June with IMBD rating 7.7;  starring Shahid Kapoor & Kiara Advani in the lead, has triggered a fresh debate on the movie, upon the character Kabir Singh's patriarchal and misogynistic behavior!

I don’t intend on proving someone's point wrong through this writings. Just expressing my point of view! Thanks to freedom of speech.

In my opinion, Kabir Singh was another Bollywood movie where a boy sees a girl, had love at first sight, they had their moments, and then they were separated because of family issues and eventually have a happy ending! With superb acting skills of actors and mind-blowing refreshing songs.

I agree some scenes of Kabir Singh are quite offensive to eyes like ordering a woman to remove her clothes on knifepoint. His extreme anger issues and some of the other scenes.

But at the end of the day, it was just a movie, and Kabir Singh is just a mere character. Why create so much controversy over it. I think some critics went upset with the fact that despite there bad reviews the movie was phenomenally superb hit on the box office.

People were saying that this movie will influence the youth and they too would follow the path of Kabir Singh; seriously a movie of 172 minutes can do this? Does the youth not know what they should do and what they shouldn’t? and even if someone's following it, then the problem is in their mindset watching Kabir Singh or not watching it doesn’t make a difference to them!

In every relationship, at times one person becomes dominating and sometimes other! It is shown Preeti was an introvert and silent girl but that doesn't mean she does not know how to speak or she can’t say NO to him because she takes her own decision and also shown her anger and slapped him many times right on his cheeks! Also, not even one scene is shown where Preeti is regretting loving Kabir or she is sick & tired of her relationship with Kabir? they both try to make it work in spite of being poles apart as far as personalities are concerned.

Long gone were the days when the lead actor should be good and the perfect Indian boy! Sometimes, an imperfect character can also give us the perfect storylines. Didn't we liked 'Guru' in 'Ek Villian'?

Raanjhanaa too won many hearts, but at that time critics didn’t say anything on the character of ‘Zoya Haider’ or the character of Sonam Kapoor was justified? Why that was just a movie and this is being treated like it’s a poison?

Again these are just movies and should be treated like one, Every movie can't give a social message!

Thanks for your perusal!
